Youth Development Through Sports
Launched in 2006, Youth Development through Sports (YDTS), expands upon the Inner City Youth Football Collaborative (ICYFC). Using football as its medium, YDTS strives to build leadership and hope for Cincinnati youth while encouraging academic achievement and community involvement. Through grants from the MLCF, costs associated with equipment, uniforms, field, and referee fees are offset.
MLCF recognizes the key to reaching the youth football players is their coaches. Thus, the coaches of the teams enrolled in the program are required to attend the Marvin Lewis NFL/NFF Coaching Clinic to learn the proper way to empower and inspire student-athletes both on and off the field.
The student-athletes are also rewarded for their academic accomplishments. All who earn honor roll distinction are invited to attend a party where Coach Lewis personally presents each with a medal of achievement.
On June 7, 2008, Coach Lewis recognized over 100 youth for their hard work in the classroom at the Academic Achievement Party presented by Ohio Casualty Group. The party recognized all children who participated in the Youth Development Through Sports program and were named to the honor roll at any point during this past academic year. Coach Lewis presented each of the kids a medal in honor of their achievement.
The kids also enjoyed a variety of games at the Lincoln Recreation Center and dinner provided by Gold Star Chili.
Do to a limited amount of funds and our grant application guidelines the Marvin Lewis Community Fund is unable to support all football programs. Below is a list of teams that need your help. Please contact the coach or athletic director and lend them a hand!
